And we are back…
Time flies and it is hard to believe we have been to Tanzania, summited Kilimanjaro and are back in Cape Town.
It was an amazing experience. Every day was completely different, as can be seen by our photos. In addition, Ben has written an excellent day to day blog. See www.kilimanjaro2by1…..
The permit to descend on the Uni was not granted for the full way, but rather from just under 4000m, because of the (perceived) danger to the other climbers However I did ‘sample’ each of the various terrains by riding short distances at different places. The major descent though was complete and successful, but not without some tumbles. If it weren’t for the excellent quality shin pads from Oddwheel Unicyles (plus other much needed and appreciated equipment), I may have left some flesh on Kili! Thanks to them and all our other generous sponsors—Quiver for amazing outdoor clothing and a custom made bag for the Unicycle, Power Bar whose energy bars gave much needed energy packed in small light weight(very important) bars, K-Way for their Kilimanjaro-range sleeping bags, rain jackets and backpacks, Orms for the loan of a top-of-the-range Go-Pro plus camera lens, and last, but not least Wizardz design and print for printing the banner of all our sponsors’ logo’s which we carried to the summit.
In addition to all of above we have received messages of support and encouragement from many many people as well as donations to IESA, I want to thank them all too.
